LOGAN -- The Top of Utah is about to get a third conference
center and new hotel as part of The Riverwoods, a mixed-use
development under way at the site of a former construction
yard.
Wasatch Development Associates broke ground Thursday on
the 32,000-square-foot Riverwoods Conference Center and adjoining
115-room Marriott hotel.
The $22.5 million project is the second phase of The Riverwoods,
located at 650 S. Main St. The first phase, an 81,000-square-foot
office building, 15,000-square-foot retail building and 380-stall
parking structure, is near completion.
Dell Loy Hansen, principal of Wasatch Development, said
in a news release that the latest project will take about
15 months to complete.
The conference center will accommodate groups of up to 700.
It will have a main ballroom and eight breakout rooms equipped
with the latest in visual and sound technology, allowing
for teleconferencing and multimedia presentations.
Some of the rooms, as well as the adjoining Riverwoods restaurant,
will be along the banks of the Logan River, with glass walls
allowing unobstructed waterway views.
The Marriott hotel will feature specialty suites, free Internet
access, a pool, exercise facilities and other amenities.
Project Manager Darren Child described the facilities as "upscale,
yet affordable."
The privately owned project is being financed with assistance
from the South Logan Redevelopment Agency.
Project and city officials expect it will inject an extra
$10 million annually into the local economy through conference
events it will attract.
Future Riverwoods plans call for more retail buildings,
another office building, and additional parking.
Logan Mayor Randy Watts said the project "will provide
significant opportunities for growth of the local economy."
